X-ray Fluorescence Analysis

EES-1 has a Rigaku, model 3064. Sequential wavelength-dispersive system, using an end-window rhodium tube. Fully automated including a sample changer with capacity for 108 samples. This wavelength-dispersive XRF analytical system presently generates high-quality analyses for 20 elements in rock or soil samples. Intensities for all elements are corrected for matrix effects, inter element interferences, and for nonlinear backgrounds using blanks. Analytical values are based on a model composed of 17 standards. Raw data and final analyses are permanently stored on a VAX computer for unknowns and for the 32 standards analyzed as unknowns; values for these standards are strictly required to match long-term average values. Final analyses include estimated uncertainties in the accuracy of each analysis, and results for at least 4-12 standards analyzed as unknowns with each data set.

The group has extensive experience in the analysis of a range of geological materials, including particle analysis.
